Three Families Celebrate New Beginnings with Habitat for Humanity
~ Construction kickoff scheduled for February 3rd at noon ~
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (January 30, 2017) – A reunited Moldovan family of five looking for an affordable place to call home, a mother caught between earning too much to qualify for public assistance but not enough to be eligible for a conventional mortgage, and another mother seeking stability and a safe place to raise her children. These families are all working toward a better future and, together with Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity and its generous sponsors, they are taking the next step on their journey to self-reliance through shelter.
Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity will hold a three-house kickoff ceremony in its McKinley subdivision (65 Taft Avenue) in the Shiloh neighborhood on Friday, February 3rd at noon. Joining with these home buyers and their families are Habitat supporters and the donors who make building possible. This event is open to the public.
Georgeta Fulga & Ghenadie Caburgan will purchase a home dually sponsored by Land of the Sky Association of Realtors in honor of their 100th anniversary and the Rusty Pulliam Foundation. Kelly Lucy’s new house will be sponsored by Habitat’s recently formed Legacy Builders Society, funded by endowments and bequests, and also marking a celebrated milestone as the 300th house built through Asheville Habitat’s Homeownership Program. Jasmin Knight’s house is being sponsored by Publix Super Markets Charities, a charitable foundation that endeavors to meet the needs of the people in our community. These donors make an investment in the community by giving Habitat a significant portion of the necessary capital to build these homes; the families repay the affordable mortgages, serviced by Habitat, over 30 years. These payments go into a revolving fund that Habitat uses to continue building more houses.
