Habitat on the Hill 2018 Brings Largest State Delegation
Some of the Habitat on the Hill 2018 delegates
Habitat on the Hill 2018, February 12-15, was a success as our HFHNC affiliate representatives and homeowners lobbied our representatives in Congress to continue to fund the legislation that supports Habitat’s efforts across the US. They encouraged our lawmakers to increase, or at minimum maintain, funding for the HOME Investment Partnership Program, Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), Corporation for National Community Service (aka AmeriCorp) and Self-help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP). The North Carolina delegation was the largest of any state with over 20 participants!
From Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity’s recent newsletter:
YOUR VOICE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
The President’s FY19 budget request – released in February – cuts $8.8 billion dollars in Federal investment in affordable housing. The proposed budget completely eliminates the federal funding that Asheville Area Habitat relies on to fund land acquisition, Home Repair, and new home construction. The budget proposal also includes dramatic cuts to rental assistance programs. These housing programs help thousands right here in Asheville including seniors, veterans, and families with children.
Members of Congress need to hear from you. Your voice can make a difference!
1. Sign this petition from the National Low Income Housing Coalition by March 16 to tell Congress to reject this harmful proposal.
Call or Tweet at your members of Congress and urge them to support full funding for affordable housing programs.
