Homebuyer Education

Effective, August 1, 2021, HUD requires that all homeowners receiving Federal funding (NCHFA, SHOP, CHODO) complete Homeownership Counseling through a HUD-approved homebuyer education course and counselor. In order to assist our affiliates with meeting this requirement, Habitat NC has partnered with eHome America to provide a simple and streamlined platform for your homebuyers to complete a HUD-approved education course.

eHome America allows your homebuyer to access the course remotely, at their convenience. The course consists of six self-paced modules that discuss information pertaining to the traditional mortgage industry as a whole. Throughout each module, homebuyers will be asked to take assessments to determine their understanding of each section. The course is estimated to take 8 hours to complete. However, completion times vary.

After completing and successfully passing the course, a HUD-approved certified housing counselor will contact your homebuyer to provide 2 hours of live counseling. At the end of the session, your homebuyer will receive a certificate to submit to your affiliate for verification of completion.

The cost of eHome America’s course + counseling is $200 per family. This fee can be paid directly by your affiliate or the homebuyer. eHome allows the use of coupons for affiliates who prefer homebuyers to pay by using a code.
