Who We Are

Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina (Habitat NC) is a 501(c)3 and one of 31 affiliate support organizations (ASOs) across the country. Founded in 2008 through the efforts of local affiliates, Habitat NC facilitates increased housing production and neighborhood revitalization efforts across the state by providing a central agency to coordinate advocacy activities, provide training and technical support opportunities, aid in disaster recovery, and serve as a focal point for disseminating statewide resources. North Carolina’s Habitat for Humanity affiliates are not subordinate to the ASO; Rather, we exist to serve them.

Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization seeking to put God’s love into action but observes a strict no-proselytizing policy. All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with our work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views, or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people.

Our Vision

A North Carolina where everyone has a safe, decent, affordable place to call home.

Our Values

  • Transparency
  • Respect for differences
  • A passionate belief in the stewardship of resources and services that leads to more and better housing for people in need
  • The promotion of best practices and affiliate successes

Tools: How We Work

Advocacy & Awareness

Training & Professional Development

Resource & Parnership Development

The ASO promotes actions at the state and local level to increase funds to Habitat's home construction and infrastructure, and to promote legislation to support the production of affordable housing and stability for low-income homeowners. On the federal level, we work with HFHI on national and international issues of concern with regard to substandard housing, funding, and access to housing for lower income people.

With partners like the SECU Foundation, we enable increased housing production across North Carolina. We seek to leverage existing affiliate mortgages to free up capital for new construction. We are focusing on finding partners who want to engage in third-party financing.

Training & Professional Development

Promoting Collaboration & Connection

We encourage adoption of best practices by all affiliates. We host an annual conference for North Carolina affiliates (Camp Habitat) that serves as the primary statewide networking and educational event of the year. We facilitate other trainings as needed both centrally and regionally.

Disaster Relief & Recovery

During times of natural disaster, Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina serves as a coordinating entity for impacted affiliate communities. This includes working with the public and private sector to secure need resources to support the recovery process.
